Live Session 1:
Addressing climate change and environmental issues through space technology

Theme: Aiming for sustainable social growth in Asia Pacific Region

Session Concept:

  • According to the 6th assessment report of IPCC there is no doubt that human activity is the main cause of global warming since the second half of the 20th century.
  • Climate change and its large-scale disasters are affecting the Asia Pacific Region environment, agriculture, forests and the impacts are accentuated by human activities.
  • Space Technology is able to contribute to MRV (measurement, reporting and validation) on the changes that occurred since the last decades,
  • The observations can be used to improve our understanding of the effects of climate change, in order to define measures of adaptation and mitigation including reduction of GHG emissions.
  • Space agency and authorities in each country need to enhance human resources, targeted on the young generation expected to play a leading role in each country in the future.
  • This is also aiming to promote APRSAF Nagoya Vision which are solutions for social issues as well as diverse linkage.
