Cooperative Research Centre for Satellite Systems (CRCSS)
What is CRCSS
The Cooperative Research Centre for Satellite Systems
(CRCSS) was formed by the Australian Government in 1998
to conduct a seven year R&Dprogram investigating the
development and applications of small satellite systems.
During the past decade, countries with relatively modest
space budgets have embraced small satellite technologies
as affordable access to space. Australia is ideally placed
to participate, service, and benefit through being a regional
player in this niche field of space enterprise.
The Centre is supported by six universities, four private
companies, and two Government research organisations and
by the Government of Australia. The first satellite project
to be conducted by the Centre is FedSat. The mission consist
of a 60kg microsatellite and S-band tracking facilities
in Adelaide SA. The Centre is the only one of its kind
in Australia devoted to space technology and represents
Australia's ambition to engage meaningfully as a contributor
to, and beneficiary from, global space activities.
