* 6. LAPAN emphasizes on the importance of its remote sensing center
+----------------------------------------------------------------+

On August 18, 2014, Dr. Orbita Roswintiarti, Deputy for Remote Sensing, the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN), Indonesia, stated that in the next five years, LAPAN was expected to become a leading organization in science and technology applications and aerospace space policy research. She said that for LAPAN to achieve its stated goal, it was essential to formulate plans to develop human resources, technology, budget, and infrastructure.

She added that, for remote sensing in particular, it was necessary to develop standard guidelines for appropriate data provision and data processing, as well as to plan in advance to establish the National Remote Sensing Data Bank (BDPJN). Dr. Roswintiarti stated that LAPAN's remote sensing data acquisition and processing played a significant role in the BDPJN, as specified in the Space Act of 2013. She also added that LAPAN's Pare-Pare Remote Sensing Center would provide low, middle, and high resolution image data for the Indonesian government and local government agencies.
