* 1. News on APRSAF: Acceptance of new proposals for SAFE to close on Feb 28, 2014

The 6th Space Applications For Environment (SAFE) workshop will be
held on April 23, 2014, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The workshop will
be co-organized by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the SAFE
secretariat. SAFE will have a special session on April 22, 2014, at
the 7th IGRSM International Conference and Exhibition on Remote
Sensing & GIS.

Ahead of the 6th SAFE workshop, acceptance of new proposals for the
SAFE prototype projects will close on February 28, 2014.

* 2. News on APRSAF: APRSAF-20 report published on VAST website

The APRSAF secretariat would like to thank all its Vietnamese
colleagues for their contribution to the success of APRSAF-20. The
secretariat has begun preparations for the next session, APRSAF-21, to
be held from December 2 to 5, 2014, in Tokyo, Japan. Updates will be
posted on the APRSAF-21 website, and will be circulated through our
News Mail as well when necessary.

* 3. New LAPAN Chairman introduced
+----------------------------------------------------------------+

On February 7, 2014, the Ministry of Research and Technology of
Indonesia (RISTEC), in the presence of the Minister for RISTEC, Dr.
Gusti Muhammad Hatta, held a ceremony at the headquarters of the
National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN), Jakarta,
Indonesia, to introduce the new Chairman of LAPAN, Prof. Thomas
Djamaluddin, who succeeds Dr. Bambang S. Tejasukmana.

Prof. Thomas Djamaluddin has specialized in astronomy and astrophysics.
He has served as head of the solar and space section of LAPAN's space
science utilization center, the head of a center for atmospheric and
climate science utilization, and as LAPAN's deputy for science,
assessment, and aerospace information.

* 4. KAZCOSMOS presents its plans for 2014
+----------------------------------------------------------------+

On February 6, 2014, at its executive board meeting, the National
Space Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan (KAZCOSMOS) presented its
plans for the year 2014. The meeting was attended by the First Deputy
Prime Minister, Mr. Bakhytzhan Sagintayev. In his presentation, Mr.
Talgat Musabayev, Chairman, KAZCOSMOS, stressed anew the importance of
establishing a self-sustaining domestic space industry. He stated
that KAZCOSMOS would establish and develop space infrastructure
including communication and earth observation satellites, and assembly,
integration and test facilities, which are the focus areas of its strategic
plans. He further stated that KAZCOSMOS would implement international
cooperation and capacity building projects for the construction of
science technology infrastructure.

* 5. Aerospace strategies for the cluster around Naro Space Center, South Korea
+----------------------------------------------------------------+

On January 28, 2014, the South Korean local government of Goheung
County, where the Naro Space Center is located, announced ten major
business strategies pertaining to aerospace. The strategies aim to
recruit excellent human resources, initiate industrialization, and
create tourism, under the framework of the aerospace cluster around
the Naro Space Center.

The strategies include plans for construction of a space theme park as
part of the Naro Space Center and a test and evaluation center for
aerospace components. The plans will be drawn up and reviewed in 2014,
and work will commence in earnest in 2015.
