1. APRSAF-17 On-line Registration is Now Open

On-line registration for the 17th session of the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-17) is now open on the APRSAF website: http://www.aprsaf.org/ (Please go to News & Updates of 23 Jul 2010). 2. STAR News

On June 16, 2010, the Satellite Technology for the Asia-Pacific Region (STAR) program, which is one of the APRSAF initiatives, celebrated its first anniversary. The details of the ceremony are provided by STAR eNews Vol.9, issued on June 21, 2010, on the following website.

On August 28 and August 29, 2010, the second STAR program Coordination Group meeting was held at the Ambhara Hotel, Jakarta, Indonesia. This meeting was attended by 36 participants from the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), National Institute of Aeronautics and Space of Indonesia (LAPAN), National Space Agency of Malaysia (ANGKASA), and the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology (VAST)/Space Technology Institute (STI). The participants discussed the progress of the STAR program and the arrangement of the experimental instruments aboard the MicroSTAR, which is a satellite to be developed by STAR. They also coordinated each organization’s roles and contributions and confirmed the purpose of MicroSTAR mission.

3. ISRO's CARTOSAT-2B Sends High Quality Imagery

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced on July 21, 2010, that ISRO's earth observation satellite, CARTOSAT-2B, which was launched on July 12, 2010, had completed the initial phase of operations. Its on-board panchromatic (PAN) camera produced the first images, which can be seen on the following page:

4. Australian Government Awards 4 Projects under ASRP
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
On July 14, 2010, the Australian Innovation Minister, Senator Kim Karr announced that 4 new projects had been granted under the Australian Space Research Program (ASRP) Round 2. ASRP supports projects that are built on Australia's research strengths. The 4 new projects will receive a total of A$13.8 million. Another 4 projects were awarded during Round 1 in February 2010, and Round 3 began in July and August 2010.
The titles of the successful projects in Round 2 are as follows:
- Southern Hemisphere Summer Space Program (University of South Australia)
- GRACE Follow-on Mission (Australian National University)
- Automated Laser Tracking of Space Debris (EOS Space Systems Pty Ltd)
- SAR Formation Flying (University of New South Wales)

5. The 4th Joint PI Symposium of ALOS Data Nodes for ALOS Science Program

The 4th Joint PI Symposium of ALOS Data Nodes and Workshop 2010, Tokyo will be held from November 15 to 17, 2010, in Tokyo, Japan. The aim of this symposium is to share and exchange the results and achievements based on the ALOS data within the ALOS Research Announcement (RA) activity and to discuss future plans.
