3. KARI is to provide satellite images for the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
On 6 April 2010, the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) and the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on using satellite images for the Four Major Rivers Restoration Projects. KARI will provide the satellite images including those from Kompsat-2 (launched on 28 July 2006) and Kompsat-5 (scheduled to be launched in late 2010) for K-water to analyse changes in river landforms and to set up development plans in the surrounding areas under its river restoration project.
They plan also to develop technologies to apply satellite images to efficient water quality management, river basin ecosystem management and water resource management for countermeasures against floods and droughts.

5. India plans to detect illegal mining, by using satellite imagery
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
The Minister of Mines and Development of North Eastern Region of India Shri B.K. Handique has announced that the assistance of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and other remote sensing agencies including the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) have been sought to obtain satellite imagery on areas of mining in some States like Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, etc.
This imagery is used to correlate with the mining lease coordinates for assessing the extent of violations by lease holders. In a particular instance in Orissa, the Indian Bureau of Mines detected illegal mining in Keonjhar district using the satellite imagery and based on this, the State Government was able to initiate action against illegal miners. On the other hand, the State Government of Karnataka has informed that it has constituted a committee to examine and suggest course of action, following the report submitted by the Lokayukta, an anti-government corruption organization, on mining irregularities in Karnataka.

6. Venus Climate Orbiter AKATSUKI was successfully launched
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Japan's Venus Climate Orbiter "AKATSUKI" ("dawn" in Japanese) was launched on May 21 aboard H-IIA Launch Vehicle No. 17 (H-IIA F17) from the Tanegashima Space Center. The H-IIA F17 flew smoothly, and at 27 minutes and 29 seconds after liftoff, AKATUSKI was separated from the H-IIA. AKATSUKI will take 6 months to arrive at Venus.
Along with the main payload AKATSUKI, five secondary payloads were launched by the H-IIA F17. :
- Small Solar Power Sail Demonstrator "IKAROS"/ Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)
- UNITEC-1/ University Space Engineering Consortium (UNISEC)
