Dr. Mark Edwin A. Tupas
Associate Professor, Department of Geodetic Engineering
University of the Philippines
Mark Edwin A. Tupas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geodetic Engineering at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City. He specialises in remote sensing, spatial databases, and programming for geospatial applications. Mark obtained his bachelor's degree in 2007 and his master's degree in Remote Sensing in 2012 from the same university. He received his Doctor of Technical Sciences (Dr.techn.) degree from TU Wien in Vienna, Austria, where his research focused on improving global near-real-time flood mapping using Synthetic Aperture Radar data cubes, which has contributed to the first-of-its-kind Global Flood Monitoring system from the Copernicus Emergency Management Service.
His research agenda aims to utilise large geospatial data holdings, satellite data cubes, and open-source technologies for various applications, particularly in water, hydrology and disaster management. Mark has led and contributed to several research projects involving remote sensing, geospatial analysis, systems design, and software development. Notably, he served as the Project Leader for the Archiving and Distribution of the Phl-Microsat and Phil-Lidar 1 programs. He was a core team member of the National SPACE Development Program (NSDP).
