1. India Successfully Launched RISAT-2 and ANUSAT, April 2009
------------------------------------------------------------------------
On April 20, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched two satellites called RISAT-2 and ANUSAT, aboard the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C12). RISAT-2 is a radar imaging satellite and will be used for Earth observations, especially for observing natural disasters. The other satellite, ANUSAT, is India's first experimental communication satellite and will demonstrate technologies related to the storage and forwarding operations of messages.

2. China Launched Two Satellites in April 2009
------------------------------------------------------------------------
China successfully launched two satellites this month. One satellite was the navigation satellite Compass-G2, launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center on April 15. The Compass Navigation Satellite System (CNSS) is a Chinese second-generation satellite navigation system capable of providing continuous, real-time passive 3D geo-spatial positioning and speed measurements. The other satellite is the remote sensing satellite Yaogan VI, launched from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center on April 22. Yaogan VI will be mainly used for surveys on land resources, environmental surveillance and protection, urban planning, crop yield estimates, disaster prevention and reduction, and space science experiments, according to the center.

3. GEO Call for Proposals - Earth Observations in Decision Support
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Group on Earth Observations (GEO, www.earthobservations.org) has issued a Call for Proposals (CFP) entitled "Earth Observations in Decision Support Projects". CFP is focused on promoting practical
applications of Earth observations to improve decision making, and it seeks to highlight specific examples in which Earth observations provide societal benefit. There is a strong focus on helping developing countries to build capacity with Earth observations.
